My hike this week was absolutely breathtaking! It was one of my favourites so far! I drove to East Sooke Regional Park and walked along the Coastal Trail. The trail followed a path along the ocean, so there was gorgeous views for a majority of the hike. At some points, we walked along the trail in the forest, and at other points we explored the beach to clearly see the beautiful oceans and mountains in the distance. After walking the coastal trail for a bit, we ventured off the trail and went to look at the petroglyphs, which are carvings in the rock created by Indigenous peoples. We walked along the rocks and were able to see the incredible petroglyphs close up. It was a great addition to the hike and I really enjoyed looking at this ancient piece of art! The only downside to this hike, in my opinion, was the uneven trail, as it was difficult to hike at some points. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this hike and the breathtaking views along the way! I look forward to returning back in the future to explore more of the Coastal Trail and the other areas of East Sooke Regional Park!
My rating of the hike: 9.5/10
- Beautiful views of the ocean, mountains, forest, and wildlife
- Great option to walk either on the trail or the beach
- Uneven trail made the hike difficult at some points
P.S. I captured so many great photos on this hike, so I included quite a few below my write up! My favourite picture I took is the photo at the top of this post with the beautiful sunset overlooking the ocean!
