This week we had Tracy Humpreys from BCEdAccess visit our class. She talked about inclusion and technology in the classroom. She shared some really helpful tips that I look forward to using in my teaching practice. I really enjoyed our breakout room discussions we had about inclusivity. It demonstrated that there is so much for teachers to consider when working on inclusivity in the classroom. In the breakout room discussions, and from Tracy Humpreys’ presentation, I took a few notes of some key points that I plan to take with me throughout my teacher journey. One important point is to figure out your students’ needs. To do this, it is important to talk to the students’ parents, past teachers, and the students themselves. It is so important to find out their needs so you can work on meeting them. Another takeaway from this presentation is to be open-minded. While we are in this program gaining knowledge to learn how to teach, we do not know everything. It is critical to remain open-minded when learning how to be inclusive to all students and when working on reaching students’ needs.
