During the course, we discussed the NCTM (National Council of Teachers in Mathematics) process standards. I wanted to touch on them briefly, as these standards influence the British Columbia curriculum. There standards were an overarching theme throughout the course, and are evident in each of the sections of my newsletter! Here is a list of the standards and a brief summary!
- Problem Solving: The application of knowledge to a more complex problem.
- Reasoning and Proof: The “why” behind the answer.
- Communication: How you may show your understanding of the mathematical ideas.
- Connections: Ways in which math can be connected to real life and other contexts outside of math.
- Representation: How you may display your knowledge in various ways that make sense to you.
