For this week’s class, we had the opportunity to participate in Ed Camp! I learned an abundance of useful information and I enjoyed listening to everyone’s thoughts! I was able to visit a few breakout rooms, including one about assessment and how to integrate Indigenous education in the classroom. However, I spent most of my time learning how to survive my first practicum! I wanted to include a few notes that I took in this post!

In this breakout room, Sandra McAulay from School District 54 gave the group some tips on how to get the most of out your practicum! Here are a few points I wrote down:

  • Communication with your sponsor teacher is huge.
  • Build relationships with your students – get to know the kids and share information about yourself too.
  • This will be one of the longest job interviews – do what you can to create a positive impact!
  • Pick one major thing you want to improve about yourself professionally (i.e., classroom management, inclusion, etc.), and pay extra attention to this goal.

Overall, I enjoyed the Ed Camp experience. All the breakout rooms were really informative, and I learned a lot of useful information that I will bring with me throughout my teaching journey!
