Throughout the term, we used our math manipulative kit to complete problems and share our ideas. Manipulatives are a great tool for the math classroom as it allows students to work on mathematical understandings with a more hands-on approach. For instance, if a student is struggling with patterns on paper, they may be able to use the manipulatives to see a real-life example of patterns using the math blocks. We used our manipulatives for various problems, such as the “Fraser River Rockslide Challenge” and “Three and Four Block Towers”. These activities really showed me how powerful math manipulatives can be! I look forward to using these in my future math classroom to allow students to learn with a more hands-on approach and communicate their math ideas in a way that makes sense to them.
I found this webpage that explains the importance of math manipulatives and how they can make math so much more fun! This webpage also includes numerous activities that use math manipulatives. I would love to use some of these in my classroom, so I will be returning to this website in the future!
